A cosy cottage in a picturesque spot near Loch Leven, built from natural materials to Passivhaus standard.
A retired couple wanted a cosy home that would be cheap to run through their retirement.
The timber frame sits on an insulated concrete slab and is wrapped in wood fibre insulation, then clad in stone and larch under a standing seam metal roof. Triple-glazed windows and doors keep the heat in, and the airtightness test came in at 0.48 air changes an hour, well inside the Passivhaus limit of 0.6.
Because the fabric does most of the work, the house needs very little heating. Infrared panels provide it, with MVHR bringing in fresh, filtered air.
The living space is open plan, with exposed oak beams and a bespoke oak staircase, so the natural materials outside carry on inside.
We're taking on new homes in and around Glasgow and Edinburgh, and anywhere within an hour and a half's drive.
